Mummy Fitness: two crucial ingredients - Kayla Itsines & Richard Branson

My first crucial ingredient, family or a good trusted and highly regarded gym creche. If it wasn't for the creche at my Virgin Active Gym I would struggle to find the time to exercise since I don't have family around to help with my little lady (she sat on my knee whilst I was having dental work not long ago - disaster!). When my husband comes home from work I want to do things as a family. I don't want to be ships passing in the night. So we walk our dogs and sit down for a family meal. We get our baby to bed and then it's "our time" which generally includes watching trash tv and relaxing; ahhh quality time! 

So, you can imagine how excited I was when, last year, I discovered superstar Australian Personal Trainer Kayla Itsines. Her Bikini Body Guides claim to get you bikini body beautiful in just 28 minutes, 3 times a week in 12 weeks as long as you do some form of LISS (Low Intensity Steady State) cardio on the other 4 days. Well, since we have two huge labradors with a tonne of energy that didn't seem like too much of a big ask. 

I started the Bikini Body Guide in December last year but the cold nights, me not being "in the zone" and some long awaited sunshine holidays resulted in me getting up to week 6 and then cancelling my gym membership all together! I don't know why I did this, since my little girl loves going to the creche, it's her only chance at interaction with other children and I know that is so important for her development. I have to say, I am really lucky in that the creche at Bolton's gym have been nothing short of amazing for both me and my daughter. She loves going, the staff know her so well and I feel assured that my daughter is in a safe, learning environment while I get an hours work out in!

A few weeks ago, I reinstated my Virgin membership, dusted off my BBG and started again. I'm now up to week 4, feeling more determined than ever and I'm noticing a huge difference in my body. It is so important to keep up to date with your progress pictures, sometimes you don't feel like you've achieved a lot but when you look back at your pictures I guarantee you'll see a huge difference and you become your own motivation. I sweat, I ache, I get out of breath, and I really struggle so much with these guides, which I LOVE. I can't tell you how many times I've been to a gym class, or trained with a PT and become frustrated at not having that muscle soreness the next day - I want to know I have worked hard! 

With BBG you're training for life, you're getting fit and you're getting healthy. You aren't just going to the gym to look good; to lift heavy weights just to tone you're body. You're going to achieve all of those things because you're actually going to be fit and healthy with a cardiovascular system to rival an athletes. Kayla's guides create a lean and toned physique, through hard work and dedication in the shortest amount of time, and that's exactly what I love these workouts. 

So thank you, Richard Branson, and thank you, Kayla Itsines for making it possible for mother's like me to stay fit and healthy for our little ones.
